Extraction
Extract ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR, and 10+ other formats with automatic detection, multi-threading, password handling, and post-extract options.
Supported Formats
Brutal Zip reads and extracts: ZIP, 7z, RAR (v4 and v5), TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ISO, WIM, and self-extracting EXEs. Format detection is automatic — just point Brutal Zip at any archive and it figures out the rest.
Extraction Modes
Multiple extraction modes for different workflows:
- Extract Here — extract to the same folder as the archive.
- Extract to Folder — extract to an auto-named subfolder.
- Extract To… — choose a specific destination.
- Extract Each — extract each archive to its own separate folder.
Additional options: flatten directory structures, skip or overwrite existing files, and filter by wildcard.
Multi-Threading & Passwords
Extraction uses the same configurable thread pool as compression for maximum speed on multi-core systems. For password-protected archives, Brutal Zip prompts once and remembers the password for the session. AES-128, AES-192, AES-256, and ZipCrypto encryption are all supported natively.
Delete After Extract
Enable the --delete-zip option (or toggle it in the UI) to automatically delete the source archive after successful extraction. Useful for cleaning up downloaded archives after they have been unpacked.
